TENT | Esther Porter

TENT by Esther Porter proudly presents their SS'13 collection of British designed and handmade utilitarian outdoor bags.

This season, TENT introduces a new backpack style in addition to their signature barrel, holdall, satchel and rucksacks. The backpack is simply constructed, boxy in shape and inspired by military bags, cycle-panniers and dive wet-bags. It features a fold-over style that keeps things secure and waterproofed.

Keeping true to the brand’s signature handwriting, all the bags in the SS'13 collection are made from a combination of tent fabric (reclaimed from summer music festivals,) British rubber-bonded cotton canvas for increased water resistance and durability, equestrian-grade cotton webbing in the straps for comfort, and nickel hardware for strength.

This season’s new colours include; sky blue, sandy-khaki, golden yellow and soft grey. Finished to the highest standards in terms of technical properties, fabric and appearance the final product remains minimal, refined, practical and hard-wearing.

TENT by Esther Porter SS'13 is available from YMC, Sefton, and Fenwick

Shop Visit | Union Clothing

Union Clothing first opened their doors in September 1987, the first store was located in High Bridge, Newcastle, in the North East of England. Originally, Union Clothing successfully designed and manufactured their own clothing label, and due to this success quickly out grew the premises and made the decision to open a second store in the same location (High Bridge), that would be stocked with some of the best brands available.

As their reputation grew as a destination store, they felt the need to open up a third store in the city, this time in a more prestigious location. The third store was opened in 69 Grey Street, doing so meant they were in a position to offer very different looks in the separate locations. The decision then was to unite both of the smaller stores in High Bridge with the introduction of their website, to appeal and offer their vast experience of denim to a wider audience and aim to emulate the experience and success of their brick and mortar stores onto their website.

The two stores at High Bridge have a different look, feel and experience to each other. The store at number 23 caters for those who like their street-wear, selling brands like Obey and Rascals, where as at number 35 they cater for those who love their quality; selling selvedge and work-wear pieces by the likes of Edwin, Carhartt, Red Wing Shoes and not forgetting the great choice of denim they stock. With street-wear not really being our thing, it was the store at number 35 where we would spend the best part of two and a half hours raking through the rails and shelves, admiring the layout of the store and having a good old chin-wag with Director Geoff.

Geoff has a lot of experience in this business, thirty six years in denim in fact. Starting out in the 70's, he studied in Graphic Design, Dip Art and Design at 'Newcastle School of Art & Design', then on to Design at 'City Stylish Newcastle Upon Tyne'. With this experience Geoff moved on and became Design Director at 'Whatmine Ltd.' (Sgt, Peppers) in the late 70's, where he would design, source fabrics, cut patterns and act as factory liaison. When Sgt, Peppers closed the next step for Geoff was Union Clothing where he still remains today.

Union Clothing offers a relaxed and easy going shopping experience, you'll be greeted on entry and won't be hassled by the staff. Help is always on hand though if needed and with Director Geoff's skills and expertise in Menswear, Vintage Clothing, Textiles and much more, you''ll be well looked after.

If you appreciate good quality pieces and craftsmanship, the labels that are sold here definitely tick those boxes, and if it's denim your after Union isn't short of it. As for the layout and aesthetics in store, it all makes sense and fits in well with the type of garments they sell, and is not to be overlooked. The light fittings, the hard wood floor, wood panel walls and the shelving units that hold the inventory. Experience it for yourself and visit their brick and mortar store at:

Weekend Offender | Category A

With Jake Bugg, Liam Gallagher, Tom Hardy & Idris Elba all fans of the brand, it's time to take notice of the 'Cat A' Collection from Weekend Offender.

For SS'13 'Category A', what could be more fitting than the set of the prison, used in Plan B's film 'Ill Manors' (with Ben also being a fan of the brand). The collection is full of Premium fabric knitwear, outerwear, shirting and polos, guilty of sharp lines, mod silhouettes and covert colour ways. Stand out pieces include 'Uruguay', a navy knee length mac with contrast inner and trims and 'Belize', a three quarter length beeswax jacket.
