YSC | Best Of British (Christmas Edition)

Fresh from the success of our first Your Samples Collective pop-up shop, we are happy to announce our next retail outing which this time will take place at the iconic location of Somerset House for their Christmas Arcade.

The second YSC shop will continue where we left off, allowing us to support an exceptional mix of Best of British brands that we have partnered with to select a careful edit of their AW'12 collections.

It opened on November 15th and will run throughout the festive season for seven weeks alongside the hugely popular ice-skating rink, this will be the first christmas Arcade that Somerset House has hosted. Housed within the West Wing of the building, YSC will be one of 15 individual retailers bringing life to the space this Christmas, offering customers a diverse mix of “Best of British” product and of course a unique gifting experience that will rival Burlington Arcade. Amongst our product, customers can expect to find a number of pieces that fall under the price tag of £150, perfect for our diverse mix of shoppers from Burtonwode, Marwood London, Morrows Outfitters, Percival Clothing and Common People.

Ever since we first started out as a blog (yoursamplescollective.tumblr.com/),

our passion has always been about highlighting exceptional British menswear
design and talent, and the recent development of YSC Presents Best of British
has allowed us a platform, along with our parent company Dirty White Unicorn, to
begin to offer retail and event opportunities focused on British menswear brands.

List of Featured British Menswear Brands:

Baartmans and Siegel

One’s to watch, are often the words that surround this dynamic design duo, but

this is something that they both, very much take in their stride, allowing their
menswear design to do the hard graft and talking. Wouter Baartmans and Amber Siegel have been designing together for five seasons now, and with both having taken up placements at Viktor & Rolf, it is clear to see why they have such a refined eye for detail, focusing on the cut of a garment, just as much as they look into the fabrication and colour. This is a pair of designers whose work will continue to grow, and the AW12 season is very much the start of things to come.

Burtonwode

In the words of the designer, underwear starts and finishes your day, a true

statement for every man, no matter what his walk of life. A quality garment, that comes with it’s own added quirks (the Einstein woven boxer shorts are genius) this product has been developed through a labour of love and more importantly comfort. Double softened cotton, with a label that doesn’t give the scratch factor, here is a brand of integrity that see’s it’s wearers make a lifelong decision to buy into the product selection.

Common People

Founder of Common People, Kestin Hare, started the brand with a very simple ethic, to design for people who share a “common interest in premium clothing and footwear” an idea that he grew whilst training under the watchful eye of Nigel Cabourn. As part of team Cabourn, Kestin went on to become the head of design but his own passion for vintage inspired work wear that came with a modern twist, led him to his own line of product that is contemporary whilst offering customers a selection of pieces that become wardrobe staples.

Ian Batten

Having met the designer Mr. Ian Batten, it’s easy to see why his clothes are just

as lauded as the man in question. His product offers a timeless approach to dressing, taking great design and pairing this with British production talent, and he himself is a relaxed man who lives by his brand ethos. Since starting his brand in 1992, Mr. Batten has dressed a number of well turned out chaps and we’re extremely pleased to be carrying a select number of pieces that reflect the Ian Batten man.

Marwood London

Officially founded in 2010, Marwood London began life as a blog, a collection of thoughts and sketches, which later went on to build the foundations, to what is fast becoming, a go to brand for the refined finishing touch, perfect for any gentleman. With English production and fabrication at the heart of this brand, each customer is assured a quality product, that designer Becky infuses with innovation season after season. The intention of the product is to create an excitement in it’s wearer, and you certainly won’t be disappointed.

Percival

The brand started it’s journey in 2009, when designers / illustrators Chris Gove and Luke Stenzhorn came together to create a menswear label that lay it’s foundation in clothing that went beyond seasons and trends. Early on into the journey, the duo recruited a third member to the gang, Olivia Hegarty, who shared their passion of working with quality fabrics, that come complete with their own interesting design quirk…Three years down the line, the brand are still going strong, adding to their list of suppliers and stockists with their own standalone store which will open in central London.

Morrows Outfitters

The sock in recent years has become a fashion and style statement of it’s own, it’s functionality has taken on more than just keeping your ankles warm but instead it is now seen as an accessory of choice. Many a man about town can now be seen flashing a little bit of their personality without having to make a complete style statement, and sock retailer Morrows is bringing to the ankle a selection of vivid colours paired with stripes and spots that keep your feet in a happy place throughout the day.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Christmas-edition of
Your Samples Collective!
